Founded in 1896, Old Englewood was touted as the "Lemon Capital of the South" until "The Great Freeze" came and killed all citrus fruit on the coast. Founding fathers then promoted Englewood as a "winter resort" with tarpon fishing, surf bathing, sailing and swimming. Englewood is a community of communities, set comfortably on an area straddling two counties, harbored by several small islands and magnificent beaches in a tropical setting.
Located on the beautiful Lemon Bay, off the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, Englewood is just a short 85 mile trip away from metropolitan Tampa Bay, 90 miles north of Naples, 50 miles north of Ft. Myers and only 35 miles south of Sarasota.
Today, Englewood is one of the few remaining areas on the gulf coast that exhibits the "Old Florida" lifestyle and is still considered as one of Florida's get away destinations. Twenty-seven beautiful miles of white sugar sand beaches, bordering the shores of Manasota Key, Palm, Don Pedro and Little Gasparilla Islands.
